CENORED plans to upgrade the single phase airdac supply with three phase ABC supply for load balancing purposes. This is an old network and once upgraded to ABC, load unbalance issues and old infrastructure will be an issue of the past. Project planned for the 2015/2016 financial year will be executed under the network upgrade budget provisions.
Main Incomer Substation
As part of the project to improve the supply to the growing town of Otavi, CENORED has committed to invest over N$ 7 million in the upgrade of the station transformer from a 2.5 MVA to a 5 MVA. A complete switchgear room with improved protection systems based on the SEL protection system – a first in the CENORED network will be installed. Once completed, the project will restore a reliable and safe supply of power to Otavi town in support of the town’s developmental plans.
Dedicated 33kV OHL from Sargberg S/S to Otavi Incomer Substation
CENORED has committed to construct a 33kV dedicated overhead line (OHL) from Sargberg substation (near Ohorongo Cement) to Otavi. This dedicated supply will ensure reliable power and continued supply to Otavi. The cost of the project is over N$ 40 million. Project is expected to be completed at the end of 2016.
B2Gold Emergency Power Supply
A 1 MVA transformer was installed complete with a dedicated recloser for improved continuity of supply. The construction is completed and will be energised in the second half of 2015.
CENORED is currently planning the electrification of the reception area. This area is to house the former inhabitants of the single quarters. Project is planned to start in the 2015/2016 financial year.
